Yorke Peninsula Council is calling on members of the community to help form a Reconciliation Action Plan Advisory Group.
Council recently established a Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party, comprising elected members and staff, dedicated to advancing reconciliation within our community.
To further this plan, Council is now seeking to establish an advisory group that will facilitate ongoing input from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders on several key areas.
“Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians,” Mayor Darren Braund said.
“Council’s RAP Working Party aims to progress Reconciliation Action Plans and enable sustainable, strategic, and meaningful action to advance reconciliation.
“Based on the core pillars of relationships, respect, and opportunities, RAPs provide tangible and substantive benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“These benefits include increasing economic equity and supporting First Nations self-determination.”
Members of the Advisory Group will receive appropriate remuneration for travel and time as part of RAP Advisory Group commitments, which include regular meetings.
If you are interested in being a member of the RAP Advisory Group, please visit www.yorke.sa.gov.au.
Expressions of Interest must be received by Friday, 16 August 2024.
The RAP Advisory Group will play a crucial role in:
- Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into operations.
- Addressing locally appropriate reconciliation initiatives, concerns, and priorities.
- Influencing policy, programs, services, and consultation strategies.
- Ensuring better access and engagement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, clients, and community members.
- Providing feedback on Council’s progress in implementing the RAP.
