Parents and carers across Yorke Peninsula will soon have free access to GLOW, a world-first digital experience designed to foster meaningful moments and deepen bonds between adults and their babies.

From July to December 2025, all Yorke Peninsula Council residents will be able to access GLOW free-of-charge.

This innovative digital subscription offers immersive soundscapes and guided prompts to enjoy both at home and in community spaces.

Whether it’s creating a bath-time ritual, enjoying a poetic tea-time reflection, or throwing a baby dance party, GLOW is about treasuring the simple, special moments that shape early connection.

Voiced by much-loved Australian actors Miranda Tapsell and Zindzi Okenyo, GLOW invites participants to slow down and engage with their baby in gentle, creative ways.

The experience was created by a group of artists drawing on their own experiences of parenthood or reflecting on the parents in their lives.

Yorke Peninsula Council, Country Arts SA and Yorke Peninsula Learning and Care are proud to support GLOW as part of the pilot program to explore new ways of delivering arts experiences to regional communities in the early years space.

To introduce the program locally, Yorke Peninsula Learning and Care’s Katie Hughes and Council Arts and Cultural Facilitator Molly Flanagan-Sjoberg will visit local playgroups and services from 23 to 27 June, offering GLOW tasters and launching community access.

“We hope that the moments in GLOW will linger for parents and carers,” contributor Sarah Lockwood said.

“While each experience is just 3 to 8 minutes, they have a way of pausing time, of marking a moment and celebrating new life and the connection between carer and child.”

Counselling psychologist and GLOW participant Jessie Holt echoed the sentiment.

“At times, there is so much pressure to be ‘doing’ that it can make us lose sight of the deep value of ‘being’,” she said.

“GLOW intuitively reminded me of the power of being.”

Created by Threshold’s team of artists—Zoë Barry, Liz Francis, Nikita Hederics, Mardi Thorpe, Alicia Stafford, Sarah Lockwood, Tahli Corin and Carolyn Ramsey—GLOW represents a new frontier in digital arts and wellbeing.

The 2025 Digital Tour of GLOW has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.

The much-loved GROUNDED Art Festival is back this August, bringing colour, creativity, and connection to the Yorke Peninsula community.

Running from 15–24 August 2025, GROUNDED will feature more than 30 creative workshops, performances, and events across 12 towns, along with eight exhibitions showcasing the incredible talent of South Australian artists.

This year, the festival continues to grow, thanks to the enthusiastic support of local progress associations and Yorke Peninsula Arts & Cultural Working Group, helping deliver exciting events.

Arts & Cultural Facilitator Molly Flanagan-Sjoberg praised the spirit of collaboration behind the festival’s return.

“GROUNDED is a celebration of regional creativity, community and culture,” she said.
“We are incredibly proud to see our townships once again come alive through art, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers and the support of progress associations across the peninsula.

“It’s fantastic to see our communities working together to establish this as an exciting destination event.”

Highlights of GROUNDED 2025 include:

• Ardrossan: The magical Sea of Light by Patch Theatre – a hands-on, family-friendly installation inviting attendees to ‘paint with light’.
• Yorketown: Exquisite Familiar, a digital art display presented in collaboration with Access2Arts, showcasing powerful works by South Australian artists living with disability, on show at Weaners Flat Hall.
• Edithburgh: The Institute will host both the Open Photography and Sculpture Exhibitions, open to all.
• Maitland: The traditional Fine Art Exhibition, celebrating creativity across Open and Schools categories.
• Full program launching soon.

Artists are encouraged to get involved, with entries now open for the Photography, Sculpture and Fine Art exhibits.

With a prize pool approaching $20,000, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of one of regional South Australia’s most exciting art events.

Yorke Peninsula Council staff continue to actively respond to the damage caused by the storm event of 26–27 May.

Significant damage occurred at Coringle Drive, Port Rickaby; Mud Alley, Foul Bay; and to a shack at Marion Bay.

Dozens of other sites/assets require remediation, and work has begun on many of these jobs.

Key staff held a meeting following the storm to assess damage across all functions.

This included initial evaluations of both Council and private infrastructure, coordination of urgent repairs, and meeting external reporting obligations.

Clean-up and repairs were prioritised based on immediate safety and risk concerns.

Work is also underway with relevant government agencies to address more complex issues, such the Marion Bay shack for which Council is working with the landowner, the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), and other government partners to determine the safest and most appropriate course of action. Community members are asked to stay away from the Marion Bay site and not to touch or move any debris, which may pose safety or environmental risks.

Acting Mayor Richard Carruthers said Council’s primary focus is community safety and coordinated recovery.

“Our thoughts are with everyone who was impacted by last week’s storm,” Mr Carruthers said.

“Council teams acted quickly to assess the situation and begin clean-up operations, with many minor repairs achieved the very next day and further works continuing ever since.

“I’d like to thank our staff for their swift response and our community for their understanding and cooperation during this time.

“Thanks also to our community members for their patience and cooperation as recovery works progress.”
