Yorke Peninsula Council are excited to announce Callum Hann and dirtgirl as special guests at its inaugural Yorkes Community Food Fair
Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis, founders of Sprout Cooking School, will be special guests at Yorke Peninsula Council’s inaugural Yorkes Community Food Fair to be held at Minlaton, on Sunday, March 31.
Sprout was established Sprout in 2011 as an interactive cooking school and has since grown to include Sprout Health Studio and Sprout Training.
Sprout’s mission to ‘inspire people to enjoy fresh, healthy, delicious food every day’ is a perfect fit for Yorke Peninsula Council’s goal of improving the health and overall wellbeing of the community and showcasing local produce, healthy eating and lifestyle choices.
“We believe that food is more than fuel and nutrients,” Mr Hann said. “We believe food defines cultures, is used to show appreciation, is fun and nourishing and brings people together.”
Council has been working in partnership with Flinders University towards a healthier Yorke Peninsula for the past two years, with several student dieticians completing work placements at Council. Each student has built upon the work of the previous student to research local produce and services that are currently available, as well as identify gaps and areas for improvement.
As a result of this research and consultation with local community members (the Food Focus Group) the idea of a food fair was selected as a priority to address some of the issues that were identified.
The Yorkes Community Food Fair will feature local produce stalls and tastings, cooking demonstrations, active lifestyle information, activities and free health advice.
The day will also include plenty of activities and entertainment for the kids with a special visit from dirtgirl and scrapboy from the popular ABC Kid’s shows dirtgirlworld and Get Grubby TV, which explore health and sustainability with young children. Join them as they check out the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle), loving leftovers, getting into composting and fresh food feasting!
For a day of delicious food and fun come along to the Minlaton Town Hall, March 31, from 10am to 4pm, and keep an eye on this website as more information becomes available.
