The Working Party generally meets quarterly on a Wednesday prior to the monthly Ordinary Council Meeting. The meetings are held in the Minlaton Council Office, 18 Main Street, Minlaton.
A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) enables Council to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation.
To implement a RAP, Council has undertaken the following approach:
- Chief Executive Officer responsible for the RAP and establishing the Working Party, and provided a report to a meeting of Council for endorsement
- Council endorsed development of the RAP and establishment of the Working Party, including staff representatives by position title, representing all directorates of Council
- Working Party implements actions of the RAP and reports to Council
- Working Party established the Advisory Group, who provide guidance. The Advisory Group consists of representatives from the three Narungga entities within the Council area, namely, Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation (prescribed body corporate under Native Title), Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association, and Point Pearce Aboriginal Corporation, as well as two representatives from the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community, appointed via a public Expression of Interest process.
Prior to the framework of the RAP, Council ensured it maintained strong partnerships with Narungga (traditionally spelled Nharangga) entities and community groups. This was, and continues, to largely focused on supporting and working with Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation, Point Pearce Aboriginal Corporation, and Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association.
Additionally, Council provides municipal services under arrangement with the Aboriginal Lands Trust for the Aboriginal Lands at Point Pearce, including development of the Town Concept Plan, and building of the Reconciliation Wall and Garden and the fire pit for Smoking Ceremonies.
