Township Activation – Community Insights and Priorities Reports

Yorke Peninsula Council has completed a major community engagement process to help identify local priorities across 19 towns and inform future township activation planning.

Delivered in partnership with Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North, the engagement included in-person workshops, online and paper-based surveys, and follow-up consultation with residents, ratepayers, Progress Associations, local businesses and community groups.

Key engagement results

19 Township Activation workshops held across the Council area.
540 people attended township workshops, averaging more than 28 participants per workshop.
The combined workshop and survey participation represented an overall engagement rate of 22% across the 19 towns.
The project reached 1,200 residents and ratepayers, noting some people may have both attended a workshop and completed a survey.
43 additional online survey responses were received from smaller coastal communities, including Wool Bay, Port Rickaby and Port Moorowie.

What the community told us

The engagement was designed to understand what communities value most about their towns, the challenges they are experiencing, and the projects or focus areas they believe should be prioritised in the short and longer term.

Feedback highlighted a strong desire to preserve each town’s local character, lifestyle and community connection, while improving essential infrastructure, maintenance, visitor appeal and opportunities that support algal bloom recovery and local growth.

How the feedback will be used

Information gathered through the engagement process will contribute to Council’s broader Yorke Peninsula Township Priorities Plan, providing a clearer picture of community priorities and helping guide future grant opportunities, budget considerations and project planning.
