Yorke Peninsula Council is preparing its new Strategic Management Plan and wants your input.
What is Yorke Peninsula Council’s Strategic Management Plan (SMP)?
A Strategic Management Plan is a roadmap for a Council’s growth and investment, guiding future projects, budgeting, planning, and asset management. It doesn’t change existing land use or planning laws but advocates for investment to support growth. A SMP typically outlines actions prioritised into immediate, short (1-3 years), medium (3-5 years), and long-term (5+ years) goals, ensuring delivery aligns with population growth and Council’s resources.
Why is the 2021-2025 SMP being reviewed?
As the 2021-2025 Strategic Management Plan (SMP) approaches its end, some strategies have been accomplished or lost relevance. Therefore, the Council has engaged Holmes Dyer to develop a new plan. The new SMP will guide Council activities from 2026 to 2030, reflecting the Yorke Peninsula’s changing landscape and community aspirations. It will retain key elements from the previous plan, such as vision and mission statements and strategic goals, but with necessary updates.
How can I have a say in what the SMP says?
The review process will involve consultation with the community and stakeholders, combined with an assessment of current data on population, land use, infrastructure, open spaces, housing, and community service needs.
The consultation period will run from July 1st to August 11th, 2024. Throughout this period, the community is invited to read the fact sheet, direct questions to the Council and Holmes Dyer, and participate a survey.
How will my feedback inform the SMP?
Feedback received during the consultation period will inform the preparation and prioritisation of a set of strategies and actions to guide the Council and the community over the next 5 few years. This process will highlight the most urgent issues and reflect what the community values about the Yorke Peninsula most. This ensures that the SMP is not just a document, but a reflection of the community’s aspirations and values.
