Yorke Peninsula Council respect the fundamental role of Nharangga dhura (Narungga people) as the First Nation custodians of Nharangga banggara (Narungga Country). Nharangga banggara encompasses all of the Yorke Peninsula Council area.

We acknowledge that Nharangga dhura’s story commenced long before Governor Hindmarsh proclaimed the province of South Australia on 28 December 1936, and hence long before the establishment of Yorke Peninsula Council.

Nharangga dhura hold a knowledge, history and culture that extends many millennia into the past. We acknowledge that First Nations lands and sovereignty were never ceded and that building a mutual understanding and respect of history is critical to the future of this place we now share.
