Message from the Mayor
Welcome to the Yorke Peninsula Council area, South Australia.
On behalf of Council and our Community, I invite you to visit our beautiful region which includes rugged coastal cliffs, sandy beaches, other unique scenery and historic museums depicting a brief history of the farming and shipping industry in our area.
Yorke Peninsula is a popular tourist destination within 2 hours drive from the City of Adelaide.
Yorke Peninsula offers exciting annual, bi-ennial and regular local market events and a variety of other activities. Details of what is regularly happening in the community are available from the Visitor Information Centre at Minlaton, which is well worth a visit while you are here.
We have extensive beaches with a serene outlook as well as an extremely rugged coastline at the tip of Southern Yorke Peninsula. You can participate in crabbing at a leisurely pace or for the more adventurous, why not try salmon fishing at Brown’s Beach and enjoy the exhilaration of the big catch!
And of course, a trip to the Yorke Peninsula would not be complete without making the trek down the foot to Innes National Park where there is much to see and do including fishing, surfing, snorkelling, diving, bushwalking, birdwatching and whale watching. Yorke Peninsula and Innes National Park are also ideal locations for the photography enthusiast.
In addition, Yorke Peninsula offers an extensive range of eating options ranging from the rather popular takeaway food outlets to excellent dining facilities. There is certainly something to suit everyone whether it is fresh seafood you are after or a tasty juicy steak.
The Peninsula is extremely well situated for retirement. We are fortunate to have a full range of aged accommodation and community housing facilities. We are also extremely well equipped with regards to medical, allied health and a full range of visiting specialist services.
We provide support services to young and disabled members of our community through the Leisure Options programme and there are options for transport support and assistance through YP Community Transport.
Whether you come for a day, a week, a month or a year, I look forward to welcoming you to Yorke Peninsula and trust that your time with us will be both an enjoyable and memorable experience.
