Yorke Peninsula Council is proud to present its 2023-2024 Annual Report, highlighting achievements, projects, and its ongoing commitment to the community.
The Annual Report is a key document that promotes transparency and celebrates achievements, big and small, over the past financial year.
“This year, we’ve continued to maintain financial sustainability while delivering initiatives that create long-term benefits for our region,” said Mayor Darren Braund.
“From enhancing childcare capacity to fostering economic innovation, we remain focused on making Yorke Peninsula an exceptional place to live, work, and visit.”
Childcare initiatives took centre stage this year with construction of the purpose-built Southern Yorke Peninsula Childcare Centre in Minlaton completed.
“This project, funded through a Black Summer Bushfire Recovery grant, addresses a critical need for childcare in our region,” Mr Braund said.
Yorke Peninsula Learning Centre also celebrated a year of success at the Maitland Family Centre, accommodating 40 children daily.
“These centres don’t just benefit families — they create local jobs and provide opportunities for formal training in Early Childhood Education,” Mr Braund said.
Council achieved major milestones in tourism and economic development, including winning a national Australia Street Art Award for the Southern Yorke Peninsula Water Tower Mural Trail.
“Tourism is a cornerstone of our local economy, and initiatives like the Wool Bay mural have put Yorke Peninsula on the map,” said Mayor Braund.
Council also supported businesses through workshops, grants, and its Business Enhancement Program, which attracted a record number of applications this year.
“These grants have supported a variety of projects, from tourism ventures to tech start-ups, reinforcing our commitment to supporting local business innovation and growth,” Mr Braund said.
Infrastructure projects funded in part by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Programme delivered more than $1.8 million in value to the community.
Highlights include walking trail upgrades, the Arthurton Main Street beautification, and significant roadworks, such as Stage 2 of the North Coast Road upgrade.
As the Annual Report highlights, Council continues to build on its successes to create a sustainable, vibrant region.
“We are proud of what we’ve achieved, and we’re excited for the opportunities ahead,” Mr Braund said.
“Thank you to the community for your support and to our hardworking Council staff for their dedication.”
