The repair and upgrade of Port Vincent’s Fisherman’s Jetty is one step closer, with the tender process now complete and detailed design work underway.
Yorke Peninsula Council has awarded the tender for the design and construction to Civil Tech, with on-site works expected to begin in June.
Construction will be scheduled during the quieter winter months to minimise disruption to the local community and visiting tourists.
The upgraded jetty will feature a flat deck, a significant improvement from the previous structure that sloped downward as it extended into the water.
“We look forward to reaching practical completion of the new and improved Fisherman’s Jetty in August,” Acting Mayor Richard Carruthers said.
“The new flat structure will improve the user experience for all those who look forward to having the Fisherman’s Jetty back open.
“Achieving these works during the quieter winter months will result in minimal disruption to locals and visitors.”
The $513,195 project has received 40 per cent funding through the Department for Infrastructure and Transport’s SA Jetties Renewal Program.
The program is aimed at supporting the long-term sustainability and safety of South Australia’s public jetties.
After damage led to the closure of the Fisherman’s Jetty, Council submitted a funding application to the program in late 2023 and was advised of its success in mid-2024.
Since then, Council has signed a grant agreement, worked closely with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport on lease arrangements for the jetty, and completed the competitive tender process.
Yorke Peninsula Council is pleased to deliver this important infrastructure project and looks forward to reopening the Fisherman’s Jetty to the public later this year.
