Yorke Peninsula Council welcomes the announcement that the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing has awarded $349,800 through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program to construct a new concrete skate park at Weaners Flat Reserve.
This exciting project will be delivered in partnership with the Yorketown Progress Association, with Council contributing an additional $50,000 and the Progress Association contributing $100,000 toward the project.
Yorketown Progress Association’s Craig Loechel said the project is a culmination of many years of voluntary work by community members.
“Weaner’s Flat playground, the BMX track and our much-loved nature play spaces stand as a testament to our community’s commitment to creating vibrant outdoor areas for locals and visitors to enjoy in our beautiful town,” Mrs Hughes said.
“The new skate park and wheeled sports facility will be a fantastic addition.
“A place for young people, families and riders of all ages to connect, build skills, and enjoy an active lifestyle close to home.”
Yorke Peninsula Council CEO Andrew Cameron said the funding announcement represented a proud and long-awaited achievement for the Yorketown community.
“This project has been talked about and worked towards for many years, and it reflects the dedication of volunteers who are constantly looking for ways to improve and energise shared spaces,” Mr Cameron said.
“Council values the strong partnership with the Yorketown Progress Association in making this vision a reality.
“By combining community drive with government support, we’re able to deliver projects that will benefit Yorketown for generations to come.”
The new facility will further enhance Weaners Flat Reserve as a key recreational destination, supporting youth engagement, active lifestyles and increased visitation to the Yorketown area.
