Yorke Peninsula joined thousands of communities across the country in making a difference during the 2024 Garage Sale Trail.
The event, held on 9-10 and 16-17 November, aims to reduce waste and promote reuse by giving pre-loved items a second life.
With nearly 6,000 garage sales registered nationwide, this year’s event was projected to save an astounding 2.5 million kilograms of items from ending up in landfill.
On Yorke Peninsula, the event brought together buyers and sellers alike, highlighting the region’s commitment to sustainability.
Local participation was impressive, with 47 garage sales and stalls registered across the two weekends.
Around 634 participants came together to keep approximately 20,962 kilograms of items in circulation, with over 15,000 treasures listed for sale.
Mayor Darren Braund praised the community’s efforts, emphasising the event’s environmental and social benefits.
“Yorke Peninsula residents have embraced this event with great enthusiasm, proving that small actions can have a big impact when it comes to waste reduction,” Mr Braund said.
“Not only does the Garage Sale Trail keep valuable items in circulation and out of landfill, but it also brings people together and strengthens our sense of community.”
The Garage Sale Trail continues to inspire Australians to think differently about waste, offering a fun and practical way to extend the life of pre-loved goods while fostering community spirit.
