The much-loved Minlagawi Nature Festival will return on Thursday, 8 October, offering a free day of nature-based fun, creativity and cultural connection for local families and visitors.
Following the success of previous festivals, which attracted more than 200 attendees, this year’s event promises an engaging program of hands-on activities designed to encourage children and families to explore, create and connect with the natural environment.
The festival is proudly supported by the Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association and Yorke Peninsula Council.
Families can enjoy a range of interactive experiences including Nharangga totems, cubby building, earth drums, creating nature-based songs with local song makers and musicians, nature crowns, Nharangga forehead facepainting, rock art, sketching and collages, nature mobiles, and a variety of nature-inspired art and craft activities.
Council Environment Officer Letitia Dahl-helm said the festival continues to provide a unique opportunity for people of all ages to engage with nature through play, creativity and culture.
“The Minlagawi Nature Festival is a wonderful celebration of the connection between people, place and culture,” Ms Dahl-helm said.
“The activities encourage children to explore the outdoors, express themselves creatively and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.”
Ms Dahl-Helm said the event also creates opportunities for families and friends to spend quality time together in a relaxed natural setting.
“Whether you’re creating artwork, building cubbies, making music or simply enjoying the beautiful surroundings, there is something for everyone to enjoy,” she said.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming families back to Minlagawi for another memorable day of learning, creativity and connection.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug, snacks and lunch to enjoy throughout the day while taking in the natural beauty of Minlagawi Gum Flat Reserve during the spring school holidays.
The Minlagawi Nature Festival will be held on Thursday, 8 October, from 10am-1pm at Minlagawi Gum Flat Reserve.
