Yorke Peninsula Council is pleased to announce work on Stage 3A of the North Coast Road upgrade, near Point Turton.
Council has secured $1,950,000 in funding through the Special Local Roads Program for the $3.2 million, 5.8-kilometre project.
Downer Group has been contracted to complete Stage 3A, which aims to address key road safety concerns, reduce ongoing maintenance costs, and mitigate dust-related environmental and health impacts.
Additionally, the project will also improve stormwater management along the route.
Stage 3A of the project represents the bulk of the remaining unsealed portion of North Coast Road.
Council is hopeful that the balance of 1.6 kilometres will be upgraded in the following financial year, subject to successful grant funding applications.
“The North Coast Road is an important link for both locals and tourists,” Director of Assets and Infrastructure Andre Kompler said.
“This funding allows us to complete Stage 3A, which will dramatically improve road conditions, safety, and accessibility for the community.
“We’re committed to delivering this project efficiently and cost-effectively, while ensuring minimal disruption for residents.”
Stage 2 of the project, which included drainage works, pavement strengthening, and a primer seal, has already shown the benefits of a collaborative design review, resulting in cost-effective construction solutions while maintaining the project’s long-term goals.
Stage 1 also saw significant road improvements, including stormwater management, road delineation, and the installation of traffic control devices.
These final stages will complete another step in the broader vision for North Coast Road, improving long-term infrastructure sustainability and meeting the growing needs of the Yorke Peninsula community.
