South Australian Local Government Grants Commission
The South Australian Local Government Grants Commission is a statutory authority responsible for advising the Minister for Planning and Local Government on the distribution of Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grants (FA Grants) to local governing authorities in South Australia.
FA Grants are untied and decisions on their expenditure are the responsibility of individual councils, in accordance with community priorities.
For 2020-21, a sum of $165.23 million has been allocated to 74 councils/communities in the State.
The Commission does not provide funds for specific projects
FA Grants are provided under the Commonwealth Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act, 1995. Under Section 11 of this Act the Commission is required to hold public hearings in connection with its recommendations. The purpose of these hearings is to provide clarification of the Commission’s operations and the opportunity for members of the public to raise issues with the Commission.
The Commission will be visiting the Yorke Peninsula Council at 5:30pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday 28th April 2021, to hold discussions with elected members and staff, and with any members of the public in attendance at the hearing. Persons wishing to attend this public hearing are asked to register their interest by 5:00 pm, Wednesday 21st April 2021 and provide either a written submission or an indication of the issues they wish to raise.
