Yorke Peninsula Council’s popular Walk the Yorke trail has been upgraded, improving accessibility and enhancing the experience for walkers and cyclists.
Recent improvements include a new path south of Ardrossan, a footbridge at Price, and the installation of dozens of wayfinding markers to help visitors navigate the trail with ease.
These improvements have been made possible through grant funding from the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing’s Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program.
Deputy Mayor Richard Carruthers said the upgrades would make Walk The Yorke safer and more user friendly.
“Council recently arranged a full audit of the Walk The Yorke trail, which identified these areas as requiring priority upgrades,” Cr Carruthers said.
“We successfully applied for grant funding and have been able to improve the path around Ardrossan, as well as adding new markers all throughout the 500-kilometre continuous trail.
“Price and Ardrossan Progress Associations have recently worked together to facilitate E-bike hire and people can now travel safely between the towns.”
Mayor Darren Braund said the upgrades would encourage more people to enjoy the unique coastal experience Walk the Yorke has to offer.
“Walk the Yorke is a fantastic way for people to explore our stunning coastline, take in breathtaking views, and experience the natural beauty of Yorke Peninsula,” Mr Braund said.
“With these upgrades, we have improved the trail’s accessibility and wayfinding, ensuring an even better experience for both locals and visitors.
“Whether you’re walking, running, or cycling, Walk The Yorke offers something for everyone, promoting both wellbeing and tourism in our communities.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Walk the Yorke right here on our doorstep, it’s a fantastic way for locals to stay active and for visitors to discover the magic of Yorke Peninsula.”

The E-bikes were purchased from Copper Trails Bike Hire, Moonta, in an initiative by Ardrossan Progress Association supported by Price Progress and Yorke Peninsula Council.
Deputy Mayor Richard Carruthers is an avid E-bike rider and said the hire bikes were a fantastic initiative.
“E-bikes are a great way to explore what our towns have to offer and to experience Walk The Yorke,” he said.
