The Yorke Peninsula Council has entered into a new long-term waste and recycling service contract with SUEZ Recycling & Recovery.
Speaking about the new contract Council’s Director Assets and Infrastructure Services, Trevor Graham, said the decision to award the contract, which commenced in October 2018, to SUEZ was made by Council’s elected body at its August 2018 meeting, complementing the open tender process.
“SUEZ were instrumental in assisting Council with the transition to the three-bin waste, recycling and garden organics collection service in 2008 and have been a strong partner ever since,” Mr Graham said.
“SUEZ are strong supporters of the local economy, employing seven staff at their Minlaton depot, and utilising local mechanical and fuel services”.
“SUEZ are also global leaders in sustainable resource management, as demonstrated by the fact that they will shortly be rolling out new waste and recycling collection vehicles, which comply with Euro 5 and ADR 80/03 emissions regulations,” Mr Graham said.
As well as rolling out new waste and recycling collection vehicles SUEZ will also be rolling out new waste, recycling and garden organics bins—commencing with garden organics bins—to all eligible properties within the council-area.
The roll out of new garden organics bins will commence on Monday 21 January 2019.
“During this time new garden organics bins will be delivered to all eligible township properties,” Mr Graham said.
“Eligible properties will also be given the option to keep their existing garden organics bins, as these belong to the property owner, or utilise the unwanted bin disposal service that will be offered by SUEZ during February”.
“It must be noted existing garden organics bins will not be serviced after February, as only one garden organics bin will be serviced per property, except where a property pays to receive an additional collection in which case only that number of garden organics bins will be serviced,” Mr Graham said.
The roll out of new waste and recycling bins will occur at a later date.
Property owners are encouraged to contact SUEZ via their free call 1800 number, 1800 411 783, to arrange the disposal of their existing garden organics bin, if they wish, or for any other questions or concerns regarding the waste and recycling service.
