Rex Minerals is developing the Hillside Project, located 12km south of the Ardrossan township on the Yorke Peninsula.
Stage 1 works are complete with the first stage of the realigned Yorke Highway opening to traffic in April 2025. Works to support future mine operations are currently underway. This includes providing access over deep creeks and improvements on the section of the Walk the Yorke between Pine Point and Rogues Point. These works are ongoing and this section of the Walk the Yorke trail between Pine Point and Rogues Point will remain closed until May 2026.
McMahon Services have been engaged by Rex to undertake Stage 2 and Stage 3 of the road works for the Hillside Project. Stage 2 works have already commenced and involve an upgrade and re-alignment to a section of St Vincent Highway, and the Sandy Church Road intersection. Stage 3 works will involve the reconstruction of Sandy Church Rd from the St Vincent Highway intersection through to the new Mine Access Rd into the REX site.

What’s happening:
Stage 3 Works on Sandy Church Rd are now underway with speed restrictions and traffic management in place.
Sandy Church Rd will be closed to all traffic from Monday 2 February 2026 to enable the roadworks to be completed safely. Most of the work will be undertaken Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm with weekend work as required. All appropriate environmental controls will be used to minimise our impacts to the environment and to the Community.

 

How this affects you:
From Monday 2 February 2026, Sandy Church Rd will be closed from the eastern end at the intersection with St Vincent Highway to the intersection with Redding Rd. A map of the site is provided overleaf.
To do this work safely we will have signed detours, and speed and lane restrictions. Outside of work hours all traffic restrictions will remain in place. Please plan your trips, be cautious around workers, follow the signs and the directions of traffic controllers, and follow the speed limits. Thank you for your patience while these works are underway.
Landowners adjacent the Sandy Church Road works will be able to access their property during road reconstruction.
