Residents across the Yorke Peninsula are invited to boost their digital skills when free Being Digital sessions are delivered at Ardrossan, Yorketown, Minlaton and Maitland libraries in March.
The program is delivered by Telstra in partnership with the South Australian Government through LibrariesSA and aims to improve digital literacy across regional and remote South Australia.
In today’s connected world, digital skills are essential; however, the Australian Digital Inclusion Index shows around 2.5 million Australians remain highly digitally excluded, with South Australia among the states with the greatest need for digital inclusion support.
Being Digital responds to this challenge by delivering free, locally tailored digital literacy training through public libraries across 23 regional council areas, with a goal of supporting more than 4000 South Australians to get online and stay connected.
Yorke Peninsula Council Acting Manager People Culture and Safety Carina Congdon said the initiative would provide practical, hands-on support for local residents.
“Digital technology plays a part in almost every aspect of daily life – from banking and shopping to staying in touch with family and accessing services,” Mrs Congdon said.
“These free sessions provide a welcoming and supportive environment where people can build confidence at their own pace, whether they’re just getting started with a smartphone or exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.”
“Council is proud to support opportunities that strengthen digital inclusion across our communities and ensure no one is left behind in an increasingly online world.”
Training sessions will cover a wide range of topics including:
- Basic device use
- Email setup and communication apps
- Online safety and scam awareness
- Social media privacy
- Secure online shopping and banking
- Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI)
Sessions will range from structured workshops to informal drop-in opportunities, allowing participants to ask questions, troubleshoot devices and receive one-on-one support.
Being Digital is about more than learning how to use technology – it is about building confidence, independence and connection.
Community members are encouraged to attend one or more sessions. Bookings can be made through their local library.
