Like all Councils in South Australia, the Yorke Peninsula Council are responsible for the administration and enforcement of provisions under the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995. The Act provides powers and functions for Councils to manage day to day enforcement and legislative provisions for responsible management of dogs and cats in the community. South Australia has a number of pro-active programmes to assist responsible animal owners and members of the community.
The majority of programmes are provided through the Dog and Cat Management Board of SA which was established under the Act to plan for, promote, and provide advice about the effective management of dogs and cats throughout South Australia.
