The safe collection, treatment and disposal or reuse of wastewater is necessary to safeguard the health of the community and protect the environment.
Some areas of the Yorke Peninsula Council are serviced by Community Wastewater Management Systems (CWMS) and others will require householders to manage their household wastewater on site.
To confirm whether your site has access to a CWMS please contact Council’s Environmental Health Officer on 08 8832 0000.
If you are required to have an on-site wastewater system, the type of system best suited to your needs and the capabilities of your site will need to be designed by a consulting wastewater engineer, with regard to a soil testing report.
For more information on what you should consider before making a choice on what type of system is best for you, refer to our IS029 Wastewater Systems information sheet.
New wastewater systems/wet areas or alterations to existing systems/wet areas will need to obtain approval from Council. Use the SF020 On-site Wastewater Application form for all types of systems, whether you plan to put in a new on-site disposal system, alter an existing system or connect to a CWMS.
Details of the range of wastewater systems approved by SA Health for use in South Australia are available here.
